Shorthand Sharks Split Weekend Series
The Sharks may be banged up with injuries stacking up as high as Marcus Bell’s and Kam Rooks’ blocked shots, but they managed to rally from 16 down in a come-from-behind victory on the road in Bakersfield Saturday.Unfortunately, just 21 hours later back at home the Sharks weren’t as lucky in a close loss to Long Beach after a back and forth game in front of a RECORD crowd (thank you, Sharks fans!!) Sunday at home.Sunday’s opening night crowd took advantage of 1,858 free tickets, edging out the Sharks’ 2024 home opener to become the highest attended Sharks game of all time.”The fans were awesome,” Head Coach Brandon Cheeks said.
“Their energy is contagious and definitely impacts the game.”The Sharks also went through a record amount of free popcorn during the game, and fans left optimistic for the Sharks season ahead.
Sharks owner Tyler Sickmeyer added that “Even though a 1-1 start isn’t what we were looking to accomplish, we have high expectations for this team and are committed to our goal of winning the 2025 TBL championship. We fully expect the guys to continue to gel and get back on track this weekend.”This week several injured Sharks, including Zion Shepherd and Josiah Wilson among others, have returned to practice. The Sharks are hopeful that Zion’s veteran presence and Josiah’s athleticism and scoring will help the Sharks get back in the win column this Friday night in a rematch at Long Beach before returning home for a prime time Saturday night matchup with Bakersfield at Mira Mesa High School.
